Lines snake around the closed Serbian bank
Clients of Alta Banka are waiting in long lines to access their funds after the Serbian central bank revoked the bank's operating license. The bank, previously Serbia's ninth largest, is under suspicion for transferring significant amounts abroad after the parliamentary elections. Owner Davor Macura, linked to the Serbian Progressive Party, faces legal actions alongside the bank's executives. The central bank has placed the bank's assets under state supervision to prevent their disappearance. Despite the closure, borrowers are still required to repay their debts.
