Court imposed a monetary penalty on Shenar, convicted of extensive tax evasion

The Prague Municipal Court imposed a fine of 7.2 million CZK on Martin Shenar, former chairman of Amun.Re, for tax evasion related to the sale of three companies to ČEZ. Shenar allegedly evaded income tax amounting to 76 million CZK between 2010 and 2011. This case has been reviewed multiple times, with previous acquittals overturned by the appellate court. Shenar maintains his innocence and has appealed the ruling. The court decided on a monetary penalty due to the lengthy duration of the proceedings, which have lasted seven years. If he fails to pay, he faces three years in prison. Shenar argues he purchased the companies in 2007 to avoid taxes, as laws were more lenient at that time. He has stated he would not risk imprisonment over the tax amount in question, emphasizing his long-standing business history without tax issues.
