Internal combustion engines are out of luck this year. The European Car of the Year will be an electric vehicle, the question is which one.
The Car of the Year 2027 competition features seven all-electric finalists from various manufacturers, marking a historic first. Notably, no Chinese vehicles made the final cut, except for Volvo, owned by Geely. The finalists include models from BMW, Cupra, Hyundai, Kia, Renault, Volkswagen, and Volvo. The growing presence of electric vehicles in Europe is reflected in the finalists, with electric cars currently holding a 20% market share. The winner will be announced on January 8, 2027, at the Brussels Motor Show.
