The case of the pedophile Father Józef Loranc. "Cardinal Wojtyła was shaken and cried in the presence of witnesses"

Polish bishops took over three years to establish a commission to investigate sexual abuse of minors by clergy. Journalists from "Rzeczpospolita" began examining this issue in 2021 using state archives. They uncovered new documents regarding the case of priest Józef Loranc, who sexually abused girls in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Reports indicate that Cardinal Karol Wojtyła was deeply affected by the revelations and took immediate action against Loranc. The new findings suggest that Wojtyła's response was serious, involving discussions with monastic authorities and oversight of Loranc's rehabilitation. Additionally, the list of sexual abuse cases during the PRL era has been updated, now totaling 130 cases, highlighting systemic issues within the Church and state authorities.
