A significant portion of individuals with depression may experience treatment resistance, defined after two unsuccessful treatment attempts. Recent studies on mebufotenine, a psychedelic, show promising results, with some patients achieving remission after a single dose. The substance acts on serotonin receptors and offers rapid relief, with effects lasting longer for some. In Poland, patients can access reimbursed treatment with intranasal esketamine since July 2023, which also provides quick relief. However, mebufotenine is still experimental and requires further research to confirm its safety and efficacy.
