Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin

On Tuesday, a special US envoy met with Ukrainian President Zelensky in Oslo, then traveled to St. Petersburg to meet with Putin. Putin thanked Trump for efforts to resolve the conflict and expressed interest in restoring economic relations with the US. The envoy, Witkoff, discussed productive talks in Oslo and proposed a ceasefire, presenting documents with solutions for Ukraine. He also thanked Putin for an agreement on Russian diesel imports. During the meeting, Putin announced the release of US citizen Stephen Hubbard, detained in Russia since 2022. Amid ongoing attacks on Ukraine, Putin suggested a meeting with Trump and Xi Jinping in China during the APEC summit. Zelensky stated he was not waiting for Witkoff's return and emphasized the need for action. The discussions coincided with US concessions to Moscow, including easing sanctions on Russian fuel, while Trump criticized Zelensky's negotiation efforts.
