Record auction in Paris: a never-before-exhibited 'Iris' by Monet sold for 50 million euros

A previously unseen Iris painting by Claude Monet sold for 50 million euros at Sotheby’s in Paris, setting a record for any artwork sold in France. The painting, created between 1924 and 1925, was auctioned by the heirs of Schlumberger and surpassed Sotheby’s estimated range of 22 to 30 million euros. The previous record for a Monet Iris was 12.9 million euros in 2015. The artwork remained in pristine condition due to its private ownership and was never loaned for exhibitions. This sale coincides with the centenary of Monet's death, celebrated with special exhibitions.
