Switzerland reopens diplomatic representation in North Korea after six years
Switzerland has reopened its diplomatic representation in North Korea after six years, following its closure in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis visited Pyongyang to mark the reopening, emphasizing the importance of direct dialogue for peace and stability in the region. The Swiss representation will operate under the Swiss embassy in Beijing, which manages diplomatic relations with North Korea. Cassis's visit is the first by a Swiss government member since 2003 and includes meetings with North Korean officials. Switzerland has been part of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission since 1953, maintaining political dialogue with Pyongyang.
