Sydney activates special police unit that responds to incidents like the one at Bondi Beach

New South Wales police have established an armed response unit called the Armed Response Command (ARC) following a terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in December 2025. This unit, funded with 94.3 million AUD, will patrol high-traffic areas in Sydney and major events, utilizing specially equipped vehicles and automatic weapons. The ARC aims to enhance public safety and will operate alongside the existing 'Shelter' police operation, which addresses community tensions. The Bondi attack resulted in 15 fatalities and over 40 injuries, with the assailants linked to extremist ideologies. One attacker was killed by police, while the other faces multiple charges, including terrorism.
