Nanotyrannus skeleton sold for a fortune. It took just 12 minutes.
On Tuesday, Sotheby’s auction house in New York witnessed an intense bidding war for a Nanotyrannus skeleton named "Jodi," which sold for $47.3 million, far exceeding initial estimates of $6-9 million. The auction lasted 12 minutes with six bidders, and the winner remains anonymous. Discovered in 2019 by Jodi Pierson in Montana, "Jodi" is one of only three well-preserved Nanotyrannus skeletons known to science. Experts express concern that such valuable specimens should be preserved in museums rather than private collections, as their loss could hinder scientific research. The future of "Jodi" remains uncertain, with hopes that it will be accessible for public education and research.
