Solidarity contribution: the court annulled the previous decision of the Hungarian State Treasury in one case
The Budapest Metropolitan Court annulled the solidarity contribution imposed by the Hungarian State Treasury on the 15th district, which amounted to over 3 billion HUF. The court ruled that the Treasury's decision was not subject to substantive review and deemed the issued collection orders unlawful. This conflict over the solidarity contribution has been ongoing between Budapest and the government since its introduction in 2017, aimed at redistributing funds from wealthier municipalities to less developed ones. Mayor Gergely Karácsony criticized the legality of the contribution and called for a fundamental reform of the system, suggesting that a congestion charge could address the city's financing issues.
