It's terrible overall, but we must adapt

In Hungary, civil groups are adapting to drought conditions by implementing water retention strategies. The Gömöri Vízőrzők are among those working to slow water runoff and preserve moisture in the landscape. The government has shifted its approach to support natural water retention methods, including intentional flooding of previously cultivated areas. Agriculture is heavily impacted, with farmers shifting away from traditional crops like corn to drought-resistant varieties. Research is ongoing to identify optimal growing conditions for various crops to enhance resilience against drought. The changing climate has made adaptation essential for maintaining livable conditions in Hungary.
