"This investment will never pay off". Orlen considers closing the refinery
Over the past 20 years, Orlen Group invested over $5 billion in the Możejki refinery, with $2.3 billion for acquisition and $2.8 billion for modernization. Despite generating around $1 billion in profit, the investment is deemed unprofitable by CEO Ireneusz Fąfara. He stated that the refinery's average annual net profit of $50 million is unsatisfactory compared to the investment scale. Orlen is considering further investment in the Bottom of the Barrel project, which requires additional funding. The refinery's location limits its business potential, but Fąfara emphasizes its importance for regional energy security and job creation. The decision on future investments will be made in upcoming meetings.
