Community service sentences demanded for séance at children's graves in Amersfoort cemetery

The Public Prosecution Service has demanded community service sentences of up to 200 hours for four women accused of grave desecration at Rusthof cemetery in Amersfoort. In 2021, the women held a spiritual session without the knowledge of relatives, attempting to contact spirits using a device that measures electric fields. The event was discovered when a father found footage of the séance, leading to 57 relatives filing complaints. The case raises questions about whether paranormal investigation constitutes grave desecration. Only one suspect attended court, where a 40-hour community service sentence was requested. Relatives expressed their distress over the incident, while defense lawyers argued no damage occurred. The court will rule soon.
