Zoltán Tanács promised more funding for science and would raise research spending to 2 percent of GDP

Minister Zoltán Tanács highlighted Hungarian science on the Day of Hungarian Science, recalling physicist György Marx and Hungarian scientists in the Manhattan Project. He criticized past university reforms that excluded Hungarian students from Erasmus and Horizon programs and separated research networks. The 2027 budget proposal includes significantly increased funding for science and research, aiming to raise R&D spending from 1.3% to 2% of GDP in four years and eventually to 3%. The human research network budget will exceed 90 billion HUF, with NKFI Fund support increasing by over 30% to 143 billion HUF.
