Zoltán Tarr sent a message to the literary critics who criticize the cultural budget: Have confidence!

Several cultural organizations in Hungary have sent an open letter to Minister Zoltán Tarr, expressing concerns about the 2027 budget proposal. They argue that the budget fails to reflect promised changes in cultural policy, continuing outdated funding structures. Key issues highlighted include the lack of new foundations, ongoing uncertainty and underfunding for cultural institutions, exclusion of professional organizations from decision-making, and a demand for urgent consultations before finalizing the budget. Tarr responded by emphasizing the complexity of transforming a long-established system and the need for ongoing dialogue. He acknowledged the criticisms regarding funding disparities but stated that significant salary increases are currently unfeasible. He also addressed the dismissal of Szilveszter Ókovács, asserting it was necessary due to the situation at the Opera House.
