Last year she left Venezuela by motorboat, now opposition leader Máría Machado has returned
María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader, returned to Venezuela after nearly a year abroad. She was photographed in Lara state before heading to Caracas, where she was greeted by supporters. Despite multiple attempts to return since September, authorities had previously denied her requests, possibly influenced by the Trump administration. Machado left Venezuela last December to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. She has expressed intentions to run again if elections occur, despite facing accusations of fraud and tax violations from the Maduro government, which barred her candidacy. The current president, Delcy Rodríguez, has signed a favorable oil deal with the U.S. following Maduro's arrest.
