Timor-Leste and Indonesia analyze strengthening cooperation in higher education
Timor-Leste and Indonesia are exploring enhanced cooperation in higher education, scientific research, and human resource development. This was discussed during a meeting between Timor-Leste's Vice Prime Minister and Indonesia's Vice Minister of Higher Education in Jakarta. They considered joint research projects in health, fisheries, and biodiversity, aiming to address both countries' development needs. Other topics included strengthening faculty capabilities, academic career development, student exchanges, and visa regulations for study purposes. The meeting also addressed updating the Memorandum of Understanding on higher education, set to expire in 2027. Currently, over 5,700 Timorese students are enrolled in Indonesian universities.
