Timor-Leste and Indonesia analyze strengthening higher education

Timor-Leste is exploring enhanced cooperation with Indonesia in higher education, scientific research, and human resource development, as announced by the Timorese government. This initiative was discussed during a meeting between Timor's Vice Prime Minister Mariano Assanami Sabino and Indonesia's Vice Minister of Higher Education in Jakarta. They considered joint research projects in health, fisheries, and biodiversity, aiming to address the scientific knowledge needs of both nations. Other topics included strengthening faculty capabilities, academic career development, student exchanges, and visa regulations for study purposes. The meeting also addressed updating the Memorandum of Understanding on higher education, set to expire in 2027. Currently, over 5,700 Timorese students are enrolled in Indonesian universities.
