More renovation support is allocated to the panels than their condition would justify.
The Hungarian government is prioritizing renovation support for panel buildings despite their relatively better energy efficiency compared to family houses. The new housing program includes a Family House Program and a Panel Program, aiming to renovate 120,000 residential properties by 2030. However, the distribution of support may not align with the actual energy efficiency needs, as family houses represent a larger share of the worst-performing buildings. Studies suggest that 100,000 to 150,000 deep renovations are needed annually to meet climate neutrality goals by 2050. The current plan allocates 50% of renovations to family houses, while their share among the least efficient buildings exceeds 77%.
