More than a thousand flights have been canceled in East Asia, where a typhoon is currently hitting
Typhoon Champi has caused significant disruptions in East Asia, particularly in Taiwan, where hundreds of flights were canceled. The typhoon hit Taiwan early Friday, bringing over 200 mm of rain in some areas and wind gusts reaching the highest level on the Beaufort scale. One person has died due to the storm, and many others were injured, prompting the evacuation of over 1,000 residents. Work and classes were suspended across nearly all of Taiwan's 22 counties and cities, except for the Kinmen Islands. The Taiwanese stock market was also closed. In Japan, major airlines canceled over 160 flights from Thursday to Sunday, mainly on domestic routes.
