It takes more from the wealthier, but tightens the conditions for housing support for everyone with Wekerle Plus.
The Hungarian government is rapidly phasing out the Home Start Program (OSP) in favor of the new Wekerle Plusz initiative. Buyers must sign contracts by October 31 to apply for OSP loans by November 15. The OSP's cancellation is driven by budgetary concerns, as thousands of new contracts could undermine fiscal goals. The Wekerle Plusz is limited to individuals aged 18-45 without significant property ownership, offering different interest rates: 3% for new homes and 5% for used ones. Additionally, properties purchased under Wekerle Plusz will have a five-year residency requirement, unlike OSP, which had no such restriction.
