Top ICC official urges EU to act ‘as soon as possible’ on US sanctions

Osvaldo Zavala Giler, registrar of the International Criminal Court, urges the European Commission to provide guidance on U.S. sanctions affecting the court. He noted that his role has shifted to preparing for these sanctions as the U.S. has intensified restrictions since February 2025. The Trump administration initially targeted court officials before implementing broader sanctions in October 2026. While the EU has supported the court, it has not yet taken steps to prevent companies from adhering to U.S. laws regarding these sanctions.
