Tram tracks in Burgstraat and Rabotstraat in Ghent are being renewed: "Necessary after 35 years, and responding to complaints from local residents"
The tram tracks in Burgstraat and Rabotstraat in Ghent will be completely renewed starting late 2027. This project includes road surface, sidewalks, drainage, and tram stops improvements due to the current poor condition of the infrastructure. The tram tracks, which have been in place for 35 years, are worn out and need replacement. The city aims to address complaints from residents, particularly regarding vibrations caused by the old tracks. Additionally, new techniques are being tested to reduce tram noise. The exact timeline for the works is not yet confirmed, but they are expected to begin by the end of 2027 or early 2028, in collaboration with De Lijn, the city of Ghent, and Farys.
