Blood transfusions in the helicopter during the 'golden hour'

In a recent train accident in Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha's medical helicopters performed eight blood transfusions in-flight, enhancing survival chances during the critical 'golden hour'. Local authorities quickly mobilized resources to assist the injured, with medical teams dispatched from nearby cities. The helicopters, equipped with O-negative blood and coagulation factors, are among the few in Spain capable of conducting transfusions mid-flight. This rapid response involved seven medical helicopters from Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, and Madrid, marking an unprecedented coordinated effort in emergency medical care.
