Three years after the creation of AIMA, immigrants still face difficulties in obtaining information
In October 2024, the AIMA agency continues to face communication challenges with immigrants, a persistent issue since its inception. Immigrants report that personal visits are necessary for information due to unresponsive phone and email communication. AIMA plans to enhance digital services, with hopes for increased technological investment to manage the high workload, particularly in family reunification cases. The 2027 State Budget allocates €135 million to AIMA, a 38.6% increase from 2026, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing bureaucracy. A new president, César Teixeira, will soon lead AIMA, marking a shift towards better integration efforts.
