Constitutional Court rejects appeal on "Grandchildren's Law" and leaves the vote of 160,000 Spaniards in suspense
The Spanish Constitutional Court has rejected a challenge regarding the suspension of voting rights for over 160,000 citizens who acquired nationality under the "Grandchildren's Law." This decision, made by a majority of ten judges to two, indicates a division within the court's progressive bloc. The court deemed the challenge premature as the Supreme Court is still reviewing the case. The Defender of the People expressed concern for those unable to vote in the upcoming elections. The "Grandchildren's Law" allows descendants of Spaniards who lost nationality due to political exile to reclaim Spanish citizenship. As of now, 163,020 individuals have registered to vote, but many may be barred due to the Supreme Court's suspension.
