Trump "restores the truth". Orwell laughs from beyond the grave, historians speak of censorship
On January 23, 1870, a brutal attack by the U.S. Cavalry on the Piegan tribe resulted in significant casualties, with reports of 173 killed and over 100 captured. Major Eugene Baker led the assault, which survivors described as a massacre akin to other historical atrocities against Native American tribes. Among the attackers was Captain Gustavus Cheyney Doane, later known for his explorations in Yellowstone. A monument in his honor at Grand Teton National Park previously acknowledged his role in the massacre but had its plaque removed in January 2026 as part of an effort by the Trump administration to reshape historical narratives in U.S. national parks.
