Earthquake off the coast of Italy. Residents ran out into the streets
On Friday, a series of at least 20 earthquakes were recorded off the coast of Sicily, with tremors felt from the Aeolian Islands to Trapani. The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reported that the first quake, measuring 3.4 in magnitude, occurred around 10:30 AM at a depth of 32 kilometers. The strongest tremor, reaching 5.5, was recorded around 12:20 PM. Many residents in Palermo evacuated their homes, leading to the suspension of classes at two schools and the university. The tremors caused significant concern among residents, particularly in Ustica and Messina, although no damage was reported. Authorities advised checks on vulnerable buildings and monitored the coast due to a brief tsunami threat.
