Three months after the opening, S6 was underwater. GDDKiA provided details
On February 23, 2026, a section of the S6 expressway was flooded shortly after its opening, blocking traffic in both directions. Firefighters used high-capacity pumps to remove water, with the Szczecin direction reopening on February 25 and Gdańsk on February 26. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) confirmed that the flooding was due to extreme weather conditions, including rapid thawing and rain on frozen ground. To prevent future flooding, GDDKiA is developing plans to enhance the road and drainage systems, including raising the road and deepening retention basins. These improvements will be carried out by the original contractors, Kobylarnia and Mirbud, and will cause traffic disruptions during construction.
