"We take them at their word". Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Ukrainian assurances
Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki expressed hope that Ukraine will honor its commitment not to implement a controversial decision by the Lviv Regional Council to commemorate the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and its leader Roman Shukhevych. The decision, which declared 2027 as the year of UPA, faced criticism from Polish officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Bosacki noted that assurances from Ukrainian officials indicated the decision would not take effect, and the resolution has been removed from the council's website. The UPA remains a contentious issue in Polish-Ukrainian relations, with differing historical interpretations regarding its actions during World War II.
