Turkey's justice minister says 'criminal network' behind billion-dollar fund scandal

Turkey's investigation into a multi-billion-dollar investment fund scandal has revealed a vast criminal network infiltrating financial markets. Justice Minister Akin Gürlek announced the detention of Korkmaz Enes Ergun, head of the Istanbul stock exchange, on charges of bribery and criminal organization membership. The probe, which began in September, has led to the arrest of 112 suspects, with investigations extending to political figures and financial bureaucrats. Gürlek highlighted the manipulation of the market and the ineffective oversight mechanisms due to bribery. The government is seeking the return of funds obtained through these manipulations, with significant amounts already collected. Additionally, several journalists have been detained for allegedly spreading misinformation about the scandal.
