Ukraine: Brussels calls on member states to use defense loans to support Kiev
The European Commission has urged member states to utilize €21.3 billion in defense loans to support Ukraine, which has indicated a need for an additional €70 billion by 2027. This funding is part of the SAFE loan program aimed at enhancing defense capabilities. Member states are encouraged to prioritize urgent needs for Ukraine's armed forces, including air defense systems and munitions. The call for support follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's warning about the escalating costs of the war, projected to reach €155 billion by 2027. This request comes after the EU approved a €90 billion loan for Ukraine earlier this year.
