EU. Portuguese doubt the country's preparedness for disasters

A recent Eurobarometer survey reveals that Portuguese citizens are among the most skeptical in the EU regarding national authorities' preparedness for natural disasters. 66% believe their government is unprepared, ranking fourth in skepticism across the EU. Additionally, 69% doubt local authorities' readiness, second only to Greece. Despite this, 58% feel global authorities are well-prepared, and 97% support EU coordination in disaster response. The survey highlights a strong preference for collective action and solidarity in addressing cross-border disasters. Conducted between May 26 and June 15, 2026, it included 1,060 interviews in Portugal.
