Agent files: it was high time to cut and try to clean this wound

The Hungarian government, led by Péter Magyar, is set to release state security documents known as agent files on November 4, 36 years after the regime change. Cseh Gergő Bendegúz, director of the Historical Archives of State Security Services, discussed the types of documents that will be made public and their potential to reveal individuals' pasts as agents. He noted that previous political will to disclose these documents was lacking due to the influence of former network members within the political elite. While some well-known names may emerge, the focus is expected to be on ordinary citizens, providing a chance for societal cleansing.
