For the first time since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia can organize a world championship in any sport.

Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships, marking the first major event in Russia since the Ukraine invasion. The International Weightlifting Federation announced this decision after allowing Russian athletes back into competitions. The International Olympic Committee had previously lifted restrictions on the Russian Olympic Committee, enabling athletes to represent their country at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Russian Weightlifting Federation expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them. However, the IOC continues to refrain from holding events in Russia and does not invite Russian officials. The IWF has faced scrutiny due to past corruption allegations involving its former president.
