A cyberattack raises the temperatures of supermarket refrigeration units in Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, and Estonia
A series of cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems in European food distribution chains has emerged, affecting companies like Ahold Delhaize and Colruyt in Belgium, as well as ICA and Coop in Sweden. These incidents follow a similar attack in France, where temperatures in supermarkets soared to 50 °C, leading to food losses and fires. In Belgium, Delhaize reported temperature increases in refrigeration units, prompting an investigation. The attacks highlight vulnerabilities in operational technology systems, which are increasingly connected and remotely managed. Sweden's National Cybersecurity Center is investigating multiple incidents, with reports of altered temperatures in ICA stores. Estonia also experienced a similar attack, indicating a potential coordinated campaign against internet-connected refrigeration infrastructures across Europe, raising concerns about industrial cybersecurity.
