A series of technical failures brought down the LZB railway security system in Urda

A series of technical failures in the LZB safety system led to a tragic collision between an AVE and an Iryo train in Urda. The incident, which occurred on the Madrid-Sevilla line, was preceded by issues such as loss of tension and communication failures. Despite attempts to restore the LZB system, it remained inoperative until the collision, resulting in 69 fatalities. The Minister of Transport acknowledged that Adif had sufficient time to prevent the accident and admitted that protocols were incorrectly applied during the incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact causes and responsibilities.
