A motorcycle with a sidecar stains the Puerta de Alcalá with blood: the murder of Eduardo Dato
On March 8, 1921, Spanish Prime Minister Eduardo Dato was assassinated in Madrid while returning home. His car was ambushed by three anarchists on a motorcycle, who fired 18 shots, hitting Dato eight times, three of which were fatal. The attack was a response to Dato's repressive policies in Barcelona, particularly after appointing General Severiano Martínez Anido as governor. The anarchists had meticulously planned the assassination, tracking Dato's movements prior to the attack. Following the assassination, investigations led to the capture of two of the assailants, while the third fled to Berlin. The incident highlighted the intense political violence in Spain during that era.
