An EU press award was given for an article revealing the details of the Italian-Albanian migration agreement
The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize was awarded to journalists Giacomo Zandonini and Maite Vermeulen for uncovering details of the Italy-Albania migration agreement. Their investigation revealed that the agreement involved processing asylum requests in Albania and deporting migrants back to their countries. The authors faced numerous challenges during their research, including restricted access to the processing center. The prize, established in memory of the murdered Maltese journalist, recognizes outstanding investigative journalism in Europe. The winners were selected from 344 entries by an independent jury comprising representatives from the press and civil society.
