The USA proposed the resumption of Russian gas sales to the EU. According to Moscow, this is not possible yet.

The U.S. proposed reviving Russian gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine during September talks in Moscow and Kyiv, according to The Wall Street Journal. The plan involves sales through American intermediaries, but Russia deems it currently unfeasible. Ukraine has blocked Russian gas transit since last year, although Hungary and Slovakia still receive gas via TurkStream. The EU's legislation aims to end Russian gas supplies by mid-next year. U.S. negotiators suggested that reviving gas sales could incentivize Putin to agree to an energy ceasefire. Revenues would be held in a third country to prevent funding for aggression against Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that future gas sales depend on buyers' and sellers' interests, but implementation seems unlikely now. The EU has significantly reduced Russian gas purchases since the invasion began in February 2022, with skepticism about increasing them post-war.
