USA tightens entry rules. New requirement for passengers due to the Ebola virus
The CDC has tightened entry rules for travelers potentially exposed to Ebola, effective November 3. All passengers must submit a declaration, either digitally or on paper. Earlier this year, the CDC banned entry for foreigners who had been in Uganda or South Sudan in the past three weeks. Restrictions were also placed on travelers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where the outbreak is centered. A teleconference with airlines will clarify compliance with the new requirements. The Ebola outbreak in DRC has resulted in nearly 4,500 deaths and over 9,000 infections. Neighboring Kenya reported one death and nine infections, while Nigeria confirmed its first case. Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids, with symptoms appearing 2 to 21 days post-exposure. No approved treatment or vaccine exists yet, and the U.S. has not reported any related cases.
