The law has unlocked RES. But small investors are now giving way to the giants

At the beginning of the year, Poland had 240 GW of connection capacity, with over 150 GW from renewable energy sources (RES) and 90 GW from energy storage. The government aimed to unlock up to 150 GW for investors willing to develop RES and storage. The new grid connection law increased advance payment requirements to filter out speculative applications, resulting in an 80% reduction in pending requests. However, small and medium enterprises criticize the law for imposing financial burdens that hinder their ability to apply. Despite fewer applications, larger companies are acquiring projects from smaller developers, leading to market restructuring. Initiatives like PGE's "Project MOC" aim to attract investments in RES and energy storage.
