Use of weapons by the police must be justified, says MAI

The Minister of Internal Administration stated that police use of firearms must be justified, following an incident involving an undercover officer at a protest in Porto. He emphasized that any use of weapons must be documented and formalized. Concurrently, the Public Security Police (PSP) intervened in protests in Lisbon and Porto, resulting in the dismantling of camps and several injuries, including among police. In Porto, an undercover police team faced aggression from protesters, leading one officer to draw a firearm as a deterrent. The protest organizers condemned the police's actions, alleging intimidation and violence against vulnerable demonstrators.
