The troubled Hungarian application for the EU defense loan was allowed to proceed last.

The European Commission approved Hungary's last remaining request for the SAFE loan, which aims to provide defense funding. Initially, Hungary's previous government did not support the joint 150 billion euro loan proposal. After submitting a preliminary request for 20 billion euros, Hungary was allocated 16.2 billion euros, the third-largest share among EU countries. The new government reduced the request to 5.4 billion euros, leading to the Commission's approval. Member states will now decide on the loan, which includes an advance payment, and over 21 billion euros remains available from the total fund.
