The first diesel shipment of the Trump-Putin pact is on its way
The first tanker carrying diesel oil from Russia to the U.S. has departed as part of an agreement between Trump and Putin. The Agioi Fanendes, flagged in Malta, loaded 40,000 tons of low-sulfur diesel in Primorsk and is expected in New York by November 7. Trump announced that Russia could export 300,000 tons initially, with more to follow, aiming to lower fuel prices ahead of U.S. midterm elections. Experts doubt the impact of Russian diesel imports on U.S. prices due to their small volume relative to national consumption. Trump suspended a law targeting Russian energy imports to facilitate this deal. Russia plans to increase its diesel exports significantly by year-end, primarily to Brazil, Turkey, and African nations, following the EU's embargo on Russian oil products due to the Ukraine conflict.
