Price regulation of taxi services with taximeters is again in effect in Prague
In Prague, taxi fare regulation has been reinstated, setting a price cap at 42 CZK per kilometer and 7 CZK per minute of waiting. This decision follows numerous complaints about high fares after the previous regulation was lifted in October. The spokesperson for the city, Vít Hofman, stated that the market mechanisms did not sufficiently protect customers from excessive charges. The regulation aims to safeguard public interest and was implemented promptly after consultation with the Ministry of Finance. The last fare increase for traditional taxis occurred on August 1, raising the maximum fare from 36 to 42 CZK per kilometer. The taxi association criticized the fare increase as inadequate, and the regulation was previously removed without political decision-making, according to Deputy Mayor Jaromír Beránek.
