Wave of protests in Europe. Thousands detained in France and "the number will increase"
Protests across Europe have led to nearly a thousand arrests in France, with the Interior Minister indicating that this number may rise. Most incidents were attributed to far-left militants in various cities, while far-right activists were noted in Nice and Montpellier. In Brussels, police used tear gas against protesters attempting to breach police lines. Madrid saw around 25,000 demonstrators marching against rising living costs, while protests also occurred in Italy and Albania over economic issues and education conditions. In Lisbon, a housing crisis protest began with a camp set up in Rossio.
