From drone images to safe routes to school: UHasselt builds a smart traffic map for schoolchildren

Researchers at UHasselt are developing a tool to identify dangerous traffic points on school routes using drones and parental feedback. They have mapped around 80 Flemish cities and municipalities with input from nearly 1,000 schools. The project, Route2School, aims to create a safe route planner for children, allowing them to find the safest way to school while considering factors like detour time. The first version of the tool is currently being tested, with its final form yet to be determined.
