Vatican: Century of Mercedes-Benz popemobiles goes on display
An exhibition showcases vehicles used by popes, highlighting their evolution from a 1930 limousine to modern popemobiles. The oldest vehicle is a 1930 Nürburg 460, while the 1980 Mercedes-Benz 230 G marked the beginning of modern popemobiles. Subsequent models have included enhanced security features, culminating in the first electric popemobile, a modified G 580, introduced in 2024. The exhibition, titled A Century of the Popemobile, aims to celebrate a hundred years of papal transport and runs until January 31, 2027.
